What are some basic scrap-booking materials/tools for beginners…?

I’m thinking of starting scrap-booking. I’m not doing it about one single thing, but of multiple events and things that are or will be happening in my life. What are some basic tools or materials I’ll need to buy before I start. BTW, I want the scrapbook to be original, casual and memorable.
